Is hot tub removal worth advertising?

In a 2026 Adimize study of 321 recorded junk removal sales calls, hot tub removal was the third most requested job and had the highest typical quote, a median of $400. For this company, it was the best ticket on the phone and one of the smallest lines in the ad budget, which makes it worth its own ad group.

What we found

17 callers asked about hot tub or spa removal, the third most of any job. Only mixed household junk and furniture came up more.

This is the main job each inquiring caller named, for the 233 callers who named one:

Hot tubs were also the biggest typical ticket. Quotes ran $300 to $589, with a median of $400, the highest of any common job. For comparison, a minimum load was quoted at $145 to $179 on the same phone line.

Yet the ad budget didn't follow. The specialty campaign, which covered hot tubs and sheds, got $1,700 of about $42,000 in search spend. It booked 3 jobs at $568 each.

Why hot tubs beat demolition

Demolition demand was thin. Sheds, decks and other demolition added up to 5 callers in six months, and that's with a light demolition campaign running.

Specialty (hot tubs, sheds)$1,700173
Light demolition$10000

Hot tubs had 17 callers by themselves. Shed, deck and fence, and other demolition together had 5. If you're picking one specialty job to lead with, the callers already told you which one.

That doesn't mean demolition can't work for you. It means it didn't show up here, so it should be tested after the job people are already asking for.

Why it happens

Most junk removal ad accounts are built around the general searches: junk removal, junk hauling, furniture pickup. Those are the biggest buckets, so that's where the money goes. In this account, residential junk removal and junk hauling took $26,600 and $11,300.

Specialty jobs get lumped together in one small campaign, or left out. Hot tubs end up sharing a budget with sheds and decks, and the ads for them are written for none of them in particular.

The other reason is that owners don't always know their own job mix. You remember the jobs you did, not the calls you got. Unless someone counts what callers asked for, it's easy to miss that a big-ticket job keeps coming up.

What to do about it

  1. Count your own job mix this week. Go through your last 30 days of calls and forms and write down the main job each caller asked about. See where hot tubs land.
  2. Pull your hot tub quotes. Check what you actually quoted on those calls. If the numbers are all over the place, set one range and use it every time.
  3. Give hot tubs their own ad group. Hot tub removal and spa removal keywords, with ads that say hot tub removal, sending people to a hot tub removal page. Don't make a hot tub caller read about sheds.
  4. Build a hot tub page. What's involved, what affects the price, and how fast you can come. A caller who lands on a page about their exact job is easier to book.
  5. Lead specialty ads with hot tubs, and test the rest later. Add sheds, decks and demolition once you see the calls to back them up.
  6. Answer the phone like it's a big job. It is. A caller who heard a price somewhere else for less will tell you. In this study, one caller who said no on price had seen $150 to remove a hot tub online.

Big tickets go fast when the customer is ready. See whether junk removal customers expect same-day service and why customers turn down your quote. The headline numbers from the study are on our junk removal marketing statistics page.

How we measured this

We studied six months of Google Ads calls and forms for an owner-operated junk removal company in Southern California, late March to the end of September 2026: about $42,000 in search ad spend, 327 calls, 52 forms and 321 call recordings. Each transcript was read and coded with AI assistance for job type, price quoted and how the call ended, and every call coded as booked was checked a second time. One company, one market, six months: treat it as one detailed example, not an industry average. Read the full study.
